The Municipio Roma XIII is hosting a community cycling event today at Centro Commerciale Aura in Valle Aurelia, launching a permanent Bike Hub designed to serve residents with varying physical abilities and ages.

A New Resource for Inclusive Cycling

Doctorbike APS, a registered nonprofit association, has partnered with Rome Municipio XIII to stage "Pedala per tutti" (Cycling for Everyone) starting at 11:00 AM. The initiative establishes a fixed-location Bike Hub—a blend of repair workshop, education center, and meeting point for residents interested in cycling as daily transport.

The Hub functions as a community resource where residents can learn basic maintenance, share repair knowledge, and access equipment. This approach differs from standard bike shops by prioritizing accessibility and education over commercial transactions.

Adaptive Bikes and Test Rides

A core feature of today's event involves adaptive bicycles engineered for riders with mobility impairments. Qualified staff will accompany participants on test rides using specialized trikes, tandem bikes, and handcycles—equipment categories that remain uncommon in Rome's rental market despite growing demand.

This demonstration allows prospective users to evaluate adaptive cycling equipment and explore options for their own transportation needs.

Family Programming

Today's schedule includes hands-on workshops for children and parents, focusing on cycling safety, route selection, and helmet use. Organizers emphasize cycling as practical daily transport for school drop-offs, errands, and short-distance trips.

Location and Accessibility

The Hub's location inside Centro Aura reflects a strategic choice: the shopping district draws steady foot traffic across demographics, making it an accessible venue for community outreach. Municipio XIII, which spans neighborhoods west of the Tiber including Monte Mario and Aurelio, aims to make cycling more accessible across all age groups and abilities.

Continuity and Community Support

The collaboration between Doctorbike, municipal authorities, and volunteer networks—several affiliated with Ruotalibera FIAB, a national cycling advocacy federation—ensures the Hub functions as a sustainable community resource. Operating hours and specific programming details will be shared in coming weeks as the initiative develops.
