Her legal team successfully argued that Boeing's negligence—specifically its failure to adequately disclose the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) and train pilots on its operation—directly caused her husband's death.

The $29M award places this case in the middle range of recent Boeing verdicts. In November 2025, a Chicago jury delivered the first civil trial verdict, awarding $28.45M to another victim's family. By May 2026, that figure had jumped to $49.5M for the family of Samya Stumo, a 24-year-old American woman killed in the same crash. Boeing's lead defense attorney, Dan Webb, acknowledged in court that families deserve "substantial financial compensation," though he disputed the exact amounts.

Italy's Loss: Eight Lives Cut Short
